The records being broken by coach Abdeslam Ouaddou at Orlando Pirates
Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has been setting new PSL and club records with Orlando Pirates this season following their fantastic start to the new campaign.
Pirates have won seven of their eight games so far this campaign, the only blemish being a 1-1 away draw with AmaZulu in the league. They have reached the MTN8 final for the fifth season in a row and will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the decider on October 10.
Having led the club to the Betway Premiership title last season, their first in 14 years, Ouaddou has already written his name into the club’s history books.
But he has also claimed a couple of records this week following the 4-0 win over Kruger United on Tuesday, as revealed by OptaJabu.
That victory took the number of goals scored by the Buccaneers under Ouaddou to 100, which have come in 52 games. That is comfortably the fastest any coach has reached the landmark in the PSL era.
Second on the list is Victor Bondarenko (59 games), followed by Kostadin Papic (62), which shows that Ouaddou’s side are not just winning, but doing so in style, scoring almost two goals per game on average.
As an aside, that win meant Pirates also became the first club in PSL history to win four successive games by 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 and 4-0 scorelines.
Part of Pirates’ recent success has been their form on the road and Ouaddou has now overseen the longest unbeaten run away from home by a PSL coach.
His side have not lost in their last 18 road trips (W14 D4) since a 3-0 defeat at St Eloi Lupopo in the CAF Champions League last season.
As a club, they are closing in on the PSL record, which stands at 20 matches and is held by Sundowns.
In order to beat that, they must avoid defeat at Mauritian side La Cure Waves in the Champions League on Sunday, and at Marumo Gallants and Siwelele in the league.
Ouaddou has lost only four of his 52 competitive matches in charge of Orlando Pirates, winning 38 for a remarkable 73% win rate.
